Founded 25 years ago, Wikipedia has become one of the world’s leading gateways to knowledge. Yet its operations, contribution guidelines, and the opportunities it offers remain largely unknown to the academic community.

As part of the Wikimedia residency at the University of Montpellier, this webinar offers an introduction for doctoral students, researchers, and staff in higher education and research.

During this session, we will explore the origins and founding principles of Wikipedia, its collaborative model for knowledge creation, and the criteria that ensure the quality and verifiability of its content. We will also discuss the role of scientific publications in the encyclopedia, as well as the benefits and various ways in which the academic community can contribute to the improvement and dissemination of knowledge.

No prior experience is necessary. This webinar is intended for anyone who wants to better understand the Wikimedia ecosystem and its role in disseminating scientific knowledge to the general public.

Nicolas Vigneron is the Wikimedia resident at the University of Montpellier.
