HAL: UM's Open Access Repository
HAL is France's national open-access repository, which facilitates the open-access dissemination of scientific works across all disciplines.
The HAL-UM portal is the University of Montpellier’s portal on HAL, which brings together the scholarly output of its research units and researchers.
On this portal, you can:
- Find resources to submit your deposits to HAL or build your digital identity, as well as an FAQ to answer the most common questions
- Browse the collections of UM's research units
- Report duplicates in your posts
- View the UM Signature Policy
- Find out about the latest updates in HAL via the news feed…
The portal allows users to contribute to ExplorUM by submitting publications by researchers from UM’s research units.
The HAL-assistance team at the University of Montpellier is here to help you with all your HAL-related needs.
- It offers training on how to submit materials to HAL, create an IdHAL, and create a CV-HAL: see the "Training" tab.
- She assists researchers in submitting their work and linking their publications to their IdHAL.
- Upon request, it uploads a list of a researcher’s or a laboratory’s publications to HAL.
- She assists HAL liaisons in creating and managing a collection for their research unit.
- It manages the portal’s author and organization databases to ensure that UM researchers and research units are correctly identified and that their publications can be attributed to them. The author database can also be curated upon request for a specific research unit.

UM has a network of HAL liaisons, who serve as the link between the HAL-assistance team and their respective research units. Depending on the tasks assigned to them, liaisons may raise awareness among researchers about depositing materials in HAL, manage a collection, submit materials on behalf of their laboratory, and so on.
