Open Science Barometer

TheFrench Open Science Barometer (BSO)is one of the initiatives ofthe National Plan for Open Science. Established in 2019, it tracks the national rate of open access research publications: publications in which at least one of the authors is affiliated with an institution in France. Any research institution can now ask the Ministry to adapt these indicators to build its own Barometer.
In 2022, UM adopted a local version of the French Open Science Barometer (BSO). It covers publications from 2017 to 2023 in which at least one of the authors is affiliated with our University.
Thus, 79.5% of publications from the University of Montpellier published in 2022 were open access in 2023. In 2023, this rate rose to 82%. The access rate therefore increased by 2.5 points in one year. The national average for the same year was 66.9%.

Disclaimer : the data used for the Montpellier Barometer comes from various sources, such as Web of Science, SciVal, and HAL. Despite cross-referencing this data, the list of publications is not exhaustive. Currently, only publications with a DOI can be taken into account. As publications in the humanities and social sciences are generally under-represented in databases, they may also be under-represented in the Barometer. The integration of publications listed in HAL without a DOI is planned for the near future.
