ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor IDentifier, is an international system that allows research staff to create a unique and permanent digital identifier (ORCID ID) to distinguish themselves unambiguously. The ORCID profile has thus become an essential part of a researcher's digital identity and accompanies them throughout their career.
For more information, see our webinar Promoting your research with ORCID.
In 2026, UM will launch a campaign to encourage the creation and maintenance of ORCID IDs by offering to certify the accounts of UM faculty members.
