Webinar // Introduction to Wikidata
Audience: doctoral students, researchers, faculty members, and research staff
Level: beginner
Founded in 2012, Wikidata is the free, collaborative knowledge base for the Wikimedia family of projects. It collects and organizes data on 123 million topics to make it reusable, interoperable, and accessible worldwide. However, its functioning and its potential for research, open science, and the dissemination of knowledge remain largely unknown in the academic world.
As part of the Wikimedia residency at the University of Montpellier, this webinar offers an introduction to Wikidata for doctoral students, researchers, faculty members, and staff in higher education and research.
During this session, we will explore how Wikidata works, its data model, and its role within the Wikimedia ecosystem and the Web of Data in general. We’ll discuss how scientific information, publications, researchers, laboratories, and research projects can be represented and linked within Wikidata. We’ll also explore how to contribute to Wikidata, enrich existing data, and promote scientific output in an open and collaborative environment.
No prior experience is required. This webinar is intended for anyone interested in data, as well as in opportunities for the visibility, reuse, and interlinking of scientific information.
