UNESCO open access consultation Diamant

Since September 20, a consultation on Diamant open access has been underway, under the aegis of UNESCO. All those involved in research, including researchers, academics and information professionals, are invited to take part in this international survey.

This participatory approach to gathering feedback, ideas and proposals should enable UNESCO to create a global dynamic of commitment and collaboration, and to implement actions and systems to promote open access to Diamant.

Recent milestones in UNESCO's commitment to open access Diamond

In October 2023, the world's first Diamond Open Access Summit was held in Toluca, Mexico.

On July 10, 2024, UNESCO launched the Global Diamond Open Access Alliance, a collaborative framework designed to promote this mode of access to scientific publications.

The Second Global Diamond Open Access Summit, to be held from December 8 to 14, 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa, under the title "Centering Social Justice in Science Communication to Advance Research as a Public Good", will be an opportunity to present the results of the ongoing consultation and strengthen the collective international commitment to the Diamond Way.

By the way, what is the Diamond Way?

The two best-known variations of Open Access are the green path (open archives) and the golden path (open access journals).

The Diamond route can be considered the most virtuous publishing method, insofar as it enables the scientific community to publish with open access and at no financial cost to either authors or readers, thanks to upstream institutional funding. What's more, authors' rights are preserved, thanks to the use of free Creative Commons licenses.
