Open Science Barometers
The French Open Science Barometer (BSO) is one of the actions of the National Plan for Open Science. Set up in 2019, it tracks the national rate of Open Access Research publications: publications in which at least one of the authors is affiliated with an institution in France. Any research establishment can now ask the Ministry to use these indicators to build its own Barometer.
In 2022, the UM will have a local version of the French Open Science Barometer (BSO). It concerns publications from 2017 to 2020 for which at least one of the authors is affiliated with our University.
In 2021, 73% of University of Montpellier publications published in 2020 were available in open access. The national average for the same year was 62%.

Warning Data used for the Montpellier Barometer comes from a variety of sources, including Web of Science, SciVal and HAL. Despite the cross-referencing of these data, the list of publications is not exhaustive. For the time being, only publications with a DOI can be taken into account. As Humanities and Social Sciences publications are generally under-represented in databases, they may also be under-represented in the Barometer. The integration of publications listed in HAL without a DOI is planned for the near future.
