Wikimedia Residency: The University of Montpellier is hiring for its Shared Documentation Service

To strengthen ties between Wikimedia, researchers, and open science, the University of Montpellier’s Joint Documentation Service (SCD) is hosting a Wikimedia contributor in residence for 18 months starting in May 2026 (fixed-term contract, Category A).

The University of Montpellier, a long-standing advocate of open science and recent winner of a call for expressions of interest to develop a Wikimedia residency, is opening a position dedicated to this innovative project. This residency, funded by the National Fund for Open Science, aims to bring together the Wikimedia ecosystem, researchers, students, and society.

The successful candidate will contribute to promoting scientific research, sharing knowledge, and building the capacity of university communities to contribute to Wikimedia projects. This initiative is part of the University of Marseille’s (UM) open science initiative, for which the SCD serves as the lead department. It will foster connections between open science, the promotion of researchers’ work, and the dissemination of science to society through close collaboration with relevant university departments and on-campus partners.

This residency, named WIKIUM, offers a unique opportunity to develop concrete initiatives focused on the open dissemination of knowledge, while strengthening the region’s scientific presence within collaborative platforms.
