Applications for the Open Science Research Data Prize 2024 are now open!
The French Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Comité pour la Science Ouverte announce the opening of applications for the Prix Science Ouverte des Données de la Recherche 2024. This prize, part of the second National Plan for Open Science, aims to reward exemplary projects, individuals or groups in the management and sharing of research data, as well as projects based on data produced by others.
Calendar
- Application deadline: May 6, 2024
- Application deadline: June 24, 2024, 12 noon Paris time
- Awards ceremony: November 26, 2024 in Marseille, during the Assises nationales des données de la recherche (national research data conference).
How to apply
Applications are open until midday on June 24, 2024. To apply, click here.
Jury and Categories
The multidisciplinary jury for the 2024 edition, chaired by Aude Chambodut, Scientific Delegate for Open Science and Data at CNRS INSU, and Observatory Physicist at the University of Strasbourg's School and Observatory of Earth Sciences, will be awarding prizes in several categories:
- The "create a missing dataset" prize: is open to both individual and collective entries. The aim of the prize is to reward the creation of a new dataset to meet a specific scientific need. Candidates must have implemented a strategy for auditing existing and available data, identified a gap and then implemented a strategy for acquiring new data with a view to sharing it.
- Creating the conditions for reuse" award This year's prize is awarded to collectives that have specifically implemented one or more of the following elements (non-exhaustive list):
- "FAIR by design": application of FAIR principles right from the data acquisition phase and throughout its lifecycle;
- Enrich/prepare/clean up "reference data" sets or AI training corpora;
- Data visibility: making data sets intelligible outside the theme that produced them.
- The "fostering transdisciplinarity" prize: aims to reward collectives that have assembled/prepared a set of several datasets from different scientific disciplines and made them available for use/reuse (e.g. for AI machine learning, digital twin prototyping, etc.).
- The "jury's special mention" prize is open to both individual and collective entries. It gives the jury free rein to reward exemplary ideas and projects in terms of data openness and sharing. The jury leaves candidates free to present the projects they would like to highlight.
Awards and eligibility
Winners will receive an endowment of at least €5,000, paid to their institution. The prize is open to all professional categories: researchers, engineers, doctoral students, technicians, scientific, IT, documentary or technical experts. Young researchers who have defended their thesis since 2018 are also encouraged to apply.
